"CARIbuni" is the name of the youth and family support centre run by the Polyux Community. Their work there is partnered with Caritas, which is a Catholic charity that was set up in the region during the post-war period to provide social support and alleviate suffering during the depredations of that time, and especially aimed at supporting the refugee community in that area(refugees from the newly formed Soviet Union, and Soviet controlled Poland).
"CARIbuni" means "Welcome"(I can't remember which language, but believe its one of the African ones!), and the centre is the "umbrella" for much of the work that Polyux does on the Datzeburg, and where I am hoping much of my connecting in with the community will happen!
The centre offers everything from question and answer times for parents seeking parental advice and support, after school "hang out" time and homework help, a mother and tots group, an open coffee morning for parents and older people to meet, get out of the house and enjoy some conversation, there's a Family Day each week which includes cooking an evening meal together, and there's evening a young mum's fitness group!
But as a picture is 'worth a thousand words', I'm simply going to finish with a lovely little video clip, and the nice thing about this is that it also shows a little of the community and neighbourhood which will be mine in a few months!
