The Verein has had a pretty full, very exciting autumn, based around two key things. The first has been preparation for and the celebration of polylux e.V’s 10 Year Anniversary! The charity side of the polylux community has now been an official presence on the Datzeberg for 10 years, which we celebrated with a wonderful party (Feier) on Friday. We held a bit of an Open House at the polylux offices, complete with grilled Bratwurst, hot punch, a fire pit, button (pin badge) making, silkscreening and lots of conversations, as well as opportunities to check out some of the video projects we’ve done (die Geschichte, Choir Videos/documentary, etc) and the newly updated website!! The 10th Anniversary party was a really lovely afternoon, celebrating with the local residents and people who have become part of the Datzeberg polylux e.V Family, as well as being an opportunity for the Datzeberg to celebrate all the different ways that polylux e.V has brought light, life and colour to the neighbourhood over the past 10 years! We had so many people comment on just how much they value polylux’s presence within the neighbourhood, which was lovely to hear and to celebrate!

The other exciting development has been through the “die Geschichte” video project and the follow-on from that which has become something we’re calling “Mein Schatz”, or “My Treasure”. The video-podcast releases went really well and we had really good turn outs to the Campfire Evenings (Lagerfeurabends), with people seeming eager to meet together and discuss the videos, or questions and thoughts they’d had about the topics shared. As the podcasts came to an end (we’d only been able to do six more episodes this year), people were keen to continue with some kind of similar variation of the Lagerfeuerabends, so Ralf has been continuing to gather people every 2nd Thursday evening to talk about faith and life. So far we’ve held 3 evenings, each with someone from the polylux community sharing their story and what they feel that their belief in Jesus has brought to their lives, followed by an open time of discussion, questions or general conversation. People have really been enjoying them and seem to value having a space where they can come and talk about “Life Questions” or “Faith Questions” or some of the harder things in life, which the neighbourhood sometime seems not to allow in general day to day conversations.
We’re really excited to see these evenings develop and grow, allowing space for dialogue and exploration in a safe and open environment where questions are welcomed, “answers” are not the point, and everyone’s perspective and experiences are valued and received.
Next month we will now be focussing on continuing the Mein Schatz evenings as well as preparing for Weihnachten auf dem Datzeberg, which will be our annual Christmas celebration in the local gym, featuring carols, possibly a short skit or interactive story, more music (which everyone always loves!) and followed by gluwein and christmas treats! The Christmas Eve event, in which we partner with a local church, has become one of the annual highlights for many of the Datzeberg residents. We try to keep it fairly simple, so as not to completely exhaust the team before Christmas, but at the same time to provide a beautiful, creative and welcoming evening for the neighbourhood to come together and celebrate Christmas!
